Deposits maintain a very sharp edge.
Alloying elements include tungsten, molybdenum and vanadium.
Weld metal maintains many of its properties at elevated temperatures.
Also available in TIG form as code STANLEY 169 TIG.
Specification:
HARDNESS (AS WELDED): ROCKWELL C 58 62
HOT HARDNESS: ROCKWELL C 56 AT 1100ºF (600ºC)
HEAT TREATED: ROCKWELL C 63 65
Application:
To repair and restore high-speed cutting functions and machine tools.
Welding Positions:
Flat, Horizontal, Vertical up.
Welding Technique:
When welding the tool steel, heat the part to 1100ºF (600ºC) and keep this temperature during welding. Allow the components to cool slowly.
Microstructure:
Under as-welded conditions, the microstructure consists of martensite which is forged in part with carbide and some retained austenite.
Recommended Current:
DC reverse (+), Straight (-) or AC
